Carman for Maemo

February 17th, 2007 by Ryan

Carman for Nokia N800, 770

Carman is a new slick OBD-II analyzer application for the Nokia Maemo platform (770, n800) that turns your device into a car information and diagnostic tool. It allows you to monitor sensor data (e.g. Engine RPM, Calculated Load Value, Vehicle Speed, Coolant Temperature, and many others) as well as trouble codes and performance monitoring.

It uses a OBD, or On Board Diagnostics monitor to grab information about the car. The connection between the Scan Tool and the N800 (or 770) can be done in two ways: Bluetooth or USB. Bluetooth is the recommended way as it will give you more freedom to use Carman anywhere near the car and it is easier to set. To use Bluetooth connection you must have a Serial to Bluetooth adapter that supports the serial port profile (SPP).

Magnificent software. Too bad it doesn’t support any hardware under $100 USD.
