A study recently conducted by Venture Development Corporation (VDC) reveals that embedded hardware makers are increasingly choosing noncommercial Linux technologies over commercial Linux solutions. The study also shows that embedded Linux adoption is still steadily increasing. VDC asked 428 embedded systems developers about the operating system used for current projects and discovered that 12 percent use a noncommercial Linux operating system while only 3 percent use a commercial Linux operating system. VDC also asked 368 embedded systems developers about plans for future projects and discovered that 20 percent plan to use a noncommercial Linux operating system while only 5 percent use a commercial Linux operating system.
