a la Mobile Adds Streaming Media Capability

a la mobile voipa la Mobile has announced the availability of streaming media capability support on its Convergent Linux Platform (CLP). With a la Mobile’s CLP 3G Streaming Media Solution, Linux smartphones can now support a host of rich media applications on high-speed 3G networks such as video conferencing, video telephony, 3G interactive gaming and mobile IPTV.

a la Mobile’s CLP 3G solution is a pre-integrated streaming multimedia Linux operating system platform that includes comprehensive support for 3GP multimedia, H.263, H.264, MPEG-4 and AMR codecs, and the RTP and RTSP network protocols. In addition, the platform integrates a mobile browser, Java platform, Adobe Flash with a core suite of applications such as messaging and push-mail.

“The 3G mobile industry is driven by the growing consumer desire to accomplish a multitude of daily functions on mobile phones, whether for work or for play,” said Pauline Lo Alker, a la Mobile’s CEO and President. “The phone is rapidly being transformed into a hybrid productivity and entertainment consumer device, and our Made-Ready software solutions directly address the need for rapid and cost effective development, helping to bring these function-rich phones to market more quickly to meet the consumer need.”

According to a recent report by ABI Research at the end of last year, the number of 3G subscribers was expected to hit 285 million by the end of 2006, while operators’ overall expenditure was expected to reach $126.4 billion. Annual 3G-related handset shipments were expected to grow past 300 million.

a la Mobile’s CLP 3G Linux Solution for streaming multimedia applications is available for customers immediately. It is the second innovation in a la Mobile’s Made-Ready Series™ of Linux software offerings. In March 2007, the company announced the first of this series, a complete VoIP Linux system stack for WiFi/GSM Dual-Mode phones.
