New H9 UMPC runs Linux
Ryan
Is this the world’s first Linux-based UMPC? Depends on who you ask, I guess, but manufacturer Beijing Peace East Technology Development, Inc. certainly thinks its H9 device is in the running for the title. And why not? Sporting a 7-inch TFT touch screen (800 x 480), integrated GPS, Wi-Fi, GPRS/CDMA connectivity, and PCMCIA and SD card slots, the H9 could easily go head to head with its peers. Assuming it had any, of course.

Did you completely miss Nokias internet tablets? The 770 came out 2005 and the N800 was released early this year.

This device looks very much like the Nokia 770, and the OS pictured even resembles Maemo.

Take a look at Pepper and their Linux based Pepper Pad. Is it an UMPC? That depends on your definition of UMPC….

But the Nokia 770 doesn’t classify as a UMPC.
UMPCs have x86 processors.

Who caares if it has an x86 processor not? That is an arbitrary distinction unless you are touting excessive power consumption as a benefit.
